MEMORY SPOT

HP has developed the Memory Spot, a device about the size of a tomatoe seed that supports a 10-megabits-per-second data transfer rate and can store up to 4Mb of data. The chip has a built-in antennae, and will probably compete with RFID. Products expected in 2-5 years (from 8/2006).

PRAM - Phase-change Random Access Memory

PRAM was invented by Samsung, and is faster than Flash RAM. PRAM is nonvolatile, fast, and doesn't have to be erased before new data is written to it - Samsung clains this feature (no need to erase) makes PRAM up to 30 times faster than Flash RAM. PRAM should last ten times longer than Flash RAM. Expect to see 512-Megabit PRAM in 2008. Samsung unveils PRAM - faster than Flash RAM See also Memory (click here). See also NRAM (click here).
