1995-96

Weekes spent the entire 95-96 season with the Carolina Monarchs of the AHL.  The Monarchs were the AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers at the time.  They are now the Manchester Monarchs and the AHL affiliate of the Los Angelos Kings.  Kevin played in 60 games this season, posting a 24-25-8 record, a 4.04 GAA, a .876 SV%. and 2 shutous.  His backup this year was Todd MacDonald, who played in the minors his entire career.

1996-97

Weekes spent the entire 96-97 season witht he same Carolina Monarchs.  He played in 51 games, posting a 17-28-4 record, a 4.56 GAA, a .875 SV%, and 1 shutout.  I don't currently know who his backup was this year, but am working on it.  Todd MacDonald was with the team again, but only for a small portion of the season, he only played 1 game.

1997-98

Weekes made his NHL debut during the 97-98 season, with the florida panthers.  He played in 11 games, posting a 0-5-1 record, 3.96 GAA, a .870 SV%, and no shutouts.  John Vanbiesbrouck was the panthers starter this year.   The other two goalies who shared the backup job with Kevin were Mark Fitzpatrick, and Kirk McLean.  Weekes also played 12 games with the Fort Wayne Komets of the IHL, who were the new minor leage affiliate of the Panthers at the time, the IHL is now gone.   With the Komets, Kevin posted a  9-2-1, a 2.84 GAA, a .918 SV%, and 1 shutout.

1998-99

Weekes was traded to the Vancouver Canucks about half-way through the 1998-99 season.  I have no idea what he was doing for the first half.  Kevin played in 11 games with Vancouver, posting a 0-8-1 record, a 3.83 GAA, a .868 SV%, and no shutouts.  Garth Snow, who now shared the Islanders' starting job with Rick DiPietro, was the Canucks' starter this year, and Corey Hirsch shared the backup jog with Weekes.  Kevin also played for the Detroit Vipers, the Canucks' IHL affiliate at the time, the IHL is now gone.  He played in 33 Viper games, posting a 19-5-7, a 2.07 GAA, a .919 SV%, and 4 shutouts.

1999-00

Weekes began the 99-00 season with the Vancouver Canucks playing in 20 games, posting a 6-7-4 record, a 2.86 GAA., a .898 SV%, and 1 shutout.  Yes, Kevin got his first NHL win and shutout this year.  Garth Snow was once again the starter for Vancouver this year (Snow was the starter while Weekes was in Vancouver, after Kevin was traded, the goalie that NYI traded to Vancouver in exchange for Weekes, Felix Potvin, took over), while Shady 80 took over as the main backup.   Corey Hursch was once again the other backup, but played few games.  Midway through the season, Kevin was traded to the New York Islanders.  There, he was the starter, playing in 36 games, posting a 10-20-4 record, a 3.41 GAA, a .902 SV%, and 1 shutout.  Not bad numbers for a not very good Islanders team.  His backup was Roberto Luongo, who is now the starter for the Florida Panthers.

2000-01

Weekes was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning during the offseason prior to the 00-01 season.  He was Tampa's starter this year playing in 21 games, posting a 20-33-3 record, a 3.14 GAA, a .898 SV%, and 4 shutouts.   He had many backups.  They were...drumroll please...Dan Cloutier (Vancouver's current starter), Dieter Kochan (Once a prospect, he is now becoming quite old, and has never broke through as an NHL netminder), Nikolai Khabibulin (Tampa's current starter), Wade Flaherty (a veteran who has played most of his career in the minors), and Evgeny Konstantinov (still a prospect for the lightning).

2001-02

Weekes began the season as Nikolai Khabibulin's backup in Tampa, where he played in 19 games, posting a 3-9-0 record, a 2.89 GAA, a .915 SV%, and 2 shutouts.  Near the end of the season, he was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes for Shane Willis, and Chris Dingman (the awesomest trade that Jim Rutherford has ever made). There he played in 2 games as Arturs Irbe's backup, posting a 2-0-0 record, a 1.50 GAA, a .927 SV%, and 0 shutouts.  Shady80 not only played in his first playoff game, coming in in relief of Irbe, but also started 5 games after Irbe momentary lost his ability to stop the puck half way through Carolina's first round series with New Jersey.  Weekes Carried the team to a 4-2 series win and won the first game of the next series, before fading out and giving the starting job back to Irbe, who took the Canes all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they lost the series 4-1 to the Detroit Red Wings.  Weekes played in 8 playoff games, posting a  3-2 record, a 1.62 GAA, a .939 SV%, and 2 shutouts.

2002-03

Not a good season for Carolina.  On a positive note, Weekes did take over Carolina's starting job, and was by far their best player.  He began the season as Irbe's backup, but Irbe was flat out horrible, and Weekes was handed the starting job.  For the first two months of the season, he was undoubtedly the best goalie in the NHL, he was just amazing.  Unfortunately midway through November, Kevin was hit in the head by a Detroit Red Wing player's elboy.   Shady80 suffered a cuncussion.  It wasn't very severe, but he was out a month.   Irbe was handed the starting job...a perfect chance for him to take it back, but he failed, and Carolina fell from 5th to 10th in the Eastern Conference while Weekes was hurt.  When Weekes returned, the team momentarily started winning again, but Kevin never returned to the spectacular form that allowed him to be the best NHL goalie for the first 2 months.  Down the stretch, Kevin Weekes' hand was injured, though it didn't keep him out of the lineup, it did hinder his puck stopping ability, and many other key players were injured as well, including Erik Cole, and Rod Brind'Amour, and Carolina fell to last in the league, where they would finish the season.  Despite the hand injury, Weekes still played very good for the duration of the season.  During the season, Shady80 played in 51 games, posting a 14-24-9 record, a 2.55 GAA, a .912 SV%, and 5 shutouts.

2003-04

Another bad season for the Carolina Hurricanes.  But like the year before, it would have been worse without Kevin Weekes.  Weekes was the difference in many ‘Canes games.  His backup for most of the season was Jamie Storr, who was far from stellar.  Arturs Irbe was his backup for the last month of the season after being called up from the Johnstown Chiefs of the EHCL where he had been sentenced to exile by Jim Rutheford.  For the 03-04 season Weekes posted a 23-30-11 record, a 2.33 GAA, a .912 SV%, and 6 shutouts.  Yet again Weekes posts stellar numbers but the ‘Canes don’t.  Weekes was hampered by mild inconsistency down the stretch during the 2003-04 season.
