This music stand was custom made for one of our students, who didn't have time to build it herself. It was a wedding present for her boyfriend. It is solid mahogany and has both adjustable height and tilt. Innovative design by James C Hopp, president of the Woodworking Academy, Inc..  This student also made a special CD storage unit with door out of 1/2" Maple plywood.  The project turned out great.

This is just one of many carnival games we made for United Party Showcase who rents them. We contracted a local artist to do the painting for the Academy. She did an outstanding job!  This game is only an example.  The object is to knock down the cans with three bean bags. The innovative part of this game is a handle that restores the cans with the flip of a lever, making it very easy on the operator.

This is a really unique coffee table. It was built by one of my students. The top (shown in the up position) can be used for eating while watching TV. Then when you finish, it can be lowered to look like a normal coffee table. The wooden, spring loaded mechanism to raise the top is an Innovative solution made by James C Hopp out of hard maple and some nylon parts from Ace Hardware.

This is a real specialty item. A custom made ear-ring storage unit. Solid Maple wood and swing out doors with concealed hinges, and magnetic catches. Extra fine craftsmanship.  A lady found this in a woodworking magazine and ask us to make it for her.  No problem!  It turned out great.

This is an example of the lathe work of James C Hopp who made this large mortar and pestle for his wife out of Black Walnut wood. It measures 11.5" high with the pestle and is 5" in diameter. The 4" hole is 4" deep with straight sides, and that is quite an accomplishment.

Cherry Table Top 42" x 42" with mitered corners. You can see no gaps in the corners. This is precision woodworking at its best.

This unfinished Louvered door was made for Umstead Construction Co. out of solid mahogany which they provided.  It took a great deal of time to figure out how to build this door to the customers specifications.  This door was built to last!  The mortise and tenons on this door are huge (two inches deep) and were pinned with 5/8 inch dowels, in addition to being bonded together with West System Epoxy.  We have done many such doors for Umstead Construction over the years and they keep coming back because of our quality and workmanship.  The finished glass door to the left is also an example of our work.  We purchased this door damaged and undersized, so we had to cut off the damaged wood and add wood to the top, bottom, and hinge side.  The only way you can tell is because the added wood is a slightly different color.

These solid cherry chairs were made to order and are a fine example of our specialty or custom woodworking.  The plywood seats get covered with cloth so they don't show.  The back legs were each cut out of a solid piece of cherry.  Special pinned mortise and tenon joints were used to provide long life and eliminate the need for stretchers between the legs.
