Recently we saw a program about a retreat where artists could spend the
summer, all expenses paid, and work on whatever they chose.
Each artist had an individual cabin in the woods.
Scrumptious meals were delivered in a napkin-covered basket and left on the
doorstep, without knocking, so as not to interrupt whatever was
going on inside.
I said how lovely it would be to live like that and Roger agreed.
Then we just looked at each other --- and I realized "Hey, that's the life I'm
already leading."
We live in Raleigh, North Carolina, the capital city.
We live "inside the beltline" which means we're in a fairly high density area
(and therefore close to lots of the things we like to do).
But our particular spot backs up to undeveloped land, and our neighbors
have left most of their properties uncleared.
Result: We live in the woods!
Several years ago I left a high-stress job and took up
drawing and watercolor painting and various crafts (as well as
reading and watching movies and walking).
Then at Roger's suggestion I took up quilting.
Result: I spend most of my days alone in a "cabin" working on whatever I choose!
To complete the picture, Roger does the cooking.
He loves to cook and has taken classes in various cuisines.
I'm a terrible cook.
(I cringe when I remember the meals I fed him when we were first dating.)
Result: When I get hungry, I open the fridge and take my pick from the
various tubs filled with goodies
--- a metal, electrified version
of the wicker basket on the doorstep.
