Paul works promoting the websites of an online company that specializes in baby and wedding stationery. He works from home, so he has a very flexible schedule that lets him get involved with family activities, whether it’s playing games, reading books or lending a hand with dinner.
Paul is a big music fan. He and Caleb love singing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” or the “The Alphabet Song,” and they’re really looking forward to teaching their repertoire to a little brother or sister. Paul is learning to play the guitar. He started playing the blues at first, but lately he is much more likely to be practicing children’s favorites. Caleb and Daddy hold jam sessions that are really loud and off-key. They probably won’t win a Grammy, but they have a whole lot of fun and they can’t wait to add another member to the band.
Paul's musical tastes really run across a broad spectrum. In the blues, it's all about Taj Mahal, Keb Mo and Cool John Ferguson, a Durham based blues guitar virtuoso. When Paul's feeling adventurous, world music fits the bill nicely, particularly music from Africa. Two of his favorites include a Malian musician named Habibe Koite and a Zimbabwean musician named Oliver Mtukudzi. Of course, there's a fair amount of country and classic rock in the CD turntable, but only whenever Caleb will let Paul switch out the soundtrack from the Cars movie.
Paul also enjoys his fair share of cooking. Cajun is probably favorite style right now. He makes a mean chicken and andouille sausage gumbo. He's also a self-appointed grill master and loves recipes from the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que cookbook.
Paul has gotten hooked on coaching Caleb’s soccer and baseball teams. Our local recreational league focuses on having fun and learning about the sports. (The games for the little kids are non-competitive, so nobody keeps score.) Paul gets to be the biggest kid on the field. The kids think he’s funny, but they learn a lot, play hard, and have a great time.
