How does the adoption process work in NC?

The brief summary:
1.) The dog is listed on the ESRA website and inquiries start to come in by email.

2.) Someone follows-through and submits an application! Yippee!
3.) I screen them. (More about that later.)
4.) Once approved, then it is appropriate for the foster home
to talk to the potential adopters by phone about the dog.
5.) The foster home gets to decide whether they approve of the adopter.
6.) If we all think it is a good match, then the coordinator officially offers the family the dog.
7.) Adoption Day!

Note: While all the ESRA coordinators have common policies and procedures, we all have our own variations of the process. For the most part, we're all on the same page! This site is about the process here in NC & SC
