Life in Fifteen Minutes
written by Paul Foglia

I have two dear friends who recently were pregnant. The beauty of it was my wife and I were only a few weeks behind them. So we shared all of our experiences and joys of pregnancy. Well my wife and I miscarried, for a second time, this time twelve weeks into our term. It was a huge disappointment and sad time for us, but we came away from it with a marvel and appreciation of life and the "miracle" of life we took for granted. With some difficulty we found fortune and hope in the pregnancy of our friends. We heard the details of progression: the ultrasounds, the heartbeat, and the fetal formations. At twenty-three weeks our friends went into premature labor that could not be stopped. They gave birth to an angel 1lb 4oz. Too small and too early to survive the remainder of his gestation, he had only fifteen minutes to live with his newfound parents. He was small, yet cried twice, moved his little hands and little feet, and sucked on his fingers. Knowing the outcome, my friends huddled close together, a family on the bed with their newborn atop their chests and hearts. How do you show a child life in fifteen minutes? (Something that takes many of us 65+ years to comprehend, or figure out.) If you had fifteen minutes to let your child experience life, if YOU had fifteen minutes to live your life, what would you do? What I've experienced through the eyes of my dear friends is this: If you strip away the worldly possessions, the hours of road rage, the time spent at work, the wasted hours watching TV, the hours spent arguing, and so on, what remains? What's IMPORTANT?

The bond we form between one and other. The feeling and experience we realize only when given, received, and shared. A love SO strong, that the extreme of its depths is only felt when lost. Through God's love my friends showed this child, Justin Michael, a FULL and RICH life in fifteen minutes. And, this child showed my friends and me the depth of God's LOVE, in fifteen minutes. Find YOUR fifteen minutes!
