Your Rights

If Child Protective Services knocks on your door.
You have the right to not let them enter your
home. Go here and print out this Notice to DSS Workers and Law Enforcement Officers.
Don't
sign ANYTHING! Even if they tell you that you have to, you don't. Tell them you would like to have your
attorney look over anything you sign.
Go here and read Parents Guide to the system. It was written
by Cheryl Barnes, founder and National Director of CPSWATCH.
And the most important thing,
Document, Document, Document every interaction you have with a DSS/CPS worker. They will and do lie.
Have documentation in written and recorded form if possible.
If your children have been taken,
request that they be placed with a relative.
Read your state laws and DSS policy and procedure
manuels. All state laws can be found on the web and most of the policy and procedures. If you can't find
yours request one from your DSS office.
