Cpl. Paul Peeples is a member of the ambulance Corps, 26th NCT Regimental Hospital. Only designated members of the ambulance corps were allowed to remove wounded from the field. Soldiers stopping during battle to help their wounded comrades were considered "shirkers". Ambulance corps personnel were designated by the red band or card they wore in their hatband. This prevented them from becoming targets of snipers and assured that they were not regarded as "shirkers".
Paul is a retired Marine Corps NCO. He is a docent at the Museum of the Cape Fear in Fayetteville, and at the Airborne and Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville. He is a historian by trade with a B.A. degree in history from Campbell University in Buie's Creek, NC. He is a good guy to have around if the balloon goes up.
