2. The soldier is brought into the operating area and his wound is examined. In this case a deep wound to right upper arm is noted. The limb will be quickly examined to see if the bone is broken, if there is a pulse, and if there is massive soft tissue damage. If the bone fracture is comminuted (shattered), if the artery is severed, or if there is massive tissue damage, then the limb will be amputated. If the bone and artery are intact, then every effort will be made to extract the bullet and salvage the limb. |
