The Theory
Educational Restructuring
Despite the negative overtones of much of the analysis of Post-Intellectualism, all is not lost. First of all, there are many positive values to be realized in a Pre-Intellectual or Counter-Intellectual culture--compassion, cooperation, and religious faith, among others. Second, there are possible actions that can be taken in an attempt to mitigate our Hyper-Intellectual push. Following are some of the steps we should be considering.
Environmental Restoration
Economic Reform
Political Action
i Emphasize Liberal Arts education--including critical thinking--at all levels.
i Turn vocational education over to industry and specialized schools.
i Self-esteem is the job of the family, religion, and other tribal institutions.
i Establish agencies for international resources conservation.
i Develop alternative energy sources.
i De-urbanize the nation's population.
i Establish a tax disincentive for large families.
i Establish a Presidential Commission on Non-Growth Economic Theory.
i Advance the concept of local "no-growth" planning.
i Reform economic globalization, emphasizing equitable distribution of resources.
i Adopt a heavily progressive (anti-greed) income tax.
i Adopt meaningful campaign and election reforms.
i Restructure our reliance on the Electoral College.
i Work towards a valid approach for global federation.
These are steps we can take, actions we can initiate, in order to revitalize the intellectual foundations of modern Western civilization. To ignore these possibilities is to continue along our post-intellectual path to chaos, retribalization, mysticism, and mediocrity. All is not lost--but we are sinking deeper and deeper into our postmodern swamp.
