3D Builder - Disk 28
3D BUILDER programs are windows-based applications that convert your photos
of real world objects into full textured 3D models, ready for export to a
variety of rendering packages. Actually, 3D Builder programs are soft copy
analytical close range photogrammetry productivity tools (whew!) that do not
require any special training or experience to use. 3D Builder software offers
the POWER & FLEXIBLITY of a quick and easy to use windows-standard, intuitive
interface. 3D Builder software calculates "X","Y", "Z" coordinates. It can
display as either wireframes or shaded rendering or BOTH! Texture maps apply
directly from the photos to the 3D models.
3D BUILDER software gives you the ability to take pictures of existing
environments or objects, process the images, and then convert them into 3D
models--or to obtain 3D measurements at specified locations. 3D BUILDER
software is able to combine information from a large number of photos
(including detailed close-ups) for large, complex objects, extract
information, and merge all together into a single 3D model ready to export
to your target rendering package. 3D Builder is a powerful programs,
using robust, comprehensive "math solvers" that can make use of a variety
of visual cues in the photos.

3D Studio Afterburn 2.0 - Disk 44
It's no news that the SGI guys would kill to have a
particle shader that does clouds and smoke and
actually look as nice as Afterburn 1.0 did.
Ï Now, with 2.0, they'll just have to cry into some Ï
more beers after work.
New and notable are:
Raymarcher, Octane Shader, HyperSolids (water!!),
Powerful Daemons to interact with, and more!
All of the AFC's and Gradients can be animated over
time now too!

3D Studio Amapi3D - Disk 44
Amapi3D Plug-in for 3DS Max establishes a direct link between 3D Studio Max
and Amapi3D. The two softwares are then able to exchange objects, modify
them, thus taking advantage of both softwares capabilities.
The plug-in is only working under NT 4.0 when used with Amapi3D v4.1.

3D Studio Ambient RenderEffect 1.0 - Disk 44
Ambient is a 2D render effect that provides tinting control on an image. It has controls for not just tinting to a chosen color, but also for scanning the scene to find the brightest color or averaged frame colors. In this way, tinting can be controlled by what objects come near the camera - laser flashes lighting up the frame when they come close to the camera, for example. Quick and easy to use, Ambient can also be used for re-coloring objects after rending, or brightening/darkening parts of objects based upon Object or Material ID.

3D Studio Animation Map - Disk 44
Well we all know that the key to a good 3d scene is using good ±
° textures and materials. KTX knows this and has supplied new °
material libraries, with corresponding map files. This gives you
many more Materials and Maps to choose from than the default mat
library you find on your original Siege Max 2.0 release.
(This is the Animap Material Library)

3D Studio Animitek Animorph - Disk 44
The AniMorph plug-in is a powerful animation and modeling tool that allows sophisticated mesh animation effects based on morph targets.
AniMorph can be applied to any geometric object. It performs mesh deformation based on user-specified morph targets. Each morph target is a mesh object that has the same topology as the original mesh, and the shape that represents one of the possible object states.
The resulting mesh is obtained as a weighted sum of the morph targets. The weight of each target is a separate animatable parameter.
The most obvious application for AniMorph is facial animation, when the original mesh represents the face in its neutral expression, and the morph targets represent different emotional states (smile, wrinkled forehead, closed eyes, etc.). AniMorph can build animated combinations of these basic facial expressions- a task that would be much more difficult if done by hand.

3D Studio Atomizer 2.0 - Disk 44
Atomizer is a MAX Space Warp that works hand in hand with MAX particle
systems and expands their capabilities. Atomizer allows any MAX particle
system to use any MAX object as a particle object. Using Atomizer, the built
in MAX particle systems can emit any object (schools of fish for example),
lights, cameras - even other particle systems. Atomizer works with any MAX
particle system - those built into MAX and 3rd party applications like Sand
Blaster and All Purpose Particles.
Atomizer should appeal to anyone working with particle systems inside MAX.
It should be especially appealing to those users who cannot afford Sand
Blaster. It should also appeal to users of LenZFX MAX because it allows
particle systems to emit a spray of lights. These lights can then be used to
place flares from inside LenZFX creating some fantastic animations. It should
appeal to EVERYONE with Clay Studio. Since Atomizer can cause the MAX
particle systems to shoot out a stream of metaballs, almost any water type
effect can be done (Using over 100 metaballs requires a beefy machine.)
The biggest advantage of Atomizer is it's ability to instance geometry inside
particle systems. For example, spraying out 300 M&M candies is very easy.
NOTE: This kind of effect is only possible with Atomizer and Sand Blaster.

3D Studio Bevels 1.0 - Disk 44
Bevel 3D is a procedural modelling tool that takes any shape created
in the 2D Shaper and then adds extrusion and beveled edge. Bevel 3D
is designed to work ONLY with 2D shapes that have been brought into
the 3D Editor for extrusion and bevelling.

3D Studio Bones Pro 1.5 - Disk 44
Bones Pro MAX is a robust revision of the DOS animator staple with *
² brand new features and 3 added plugins. New features for Bones Pro ²
MAX include:
" Bones Pro space warp binds to any geometric object.
" Completely integrated into MAX viewports
" Assign selected verticies to specific bones for total control of
your objects
" Compatible with Character Studio's Biped module
" Advanced controls for excluding bones from influencing other bones
in branched models quickly
" Real-time feedback of influence of bones in viewports
" Gouraud shaded color visualization of bones' influence over mesh
" Fully functional with MAX' bones system
" Hide/Show features for speed and rendering
The three additional plugins are:
1."Blend" which smooths out seams created by Boolean operations,
allows real-time preview of adjustments, allows for smoothing
only over selected vertices and is animatable over time.
2."Skeleton" which takes the MAX created bones and converts them
into hierarchically linked boxes, preserves relative size and
placement of bones, allows for naming prefix for generated boxes
and is perfect for creating skeletons for breathing characters.
3."Snapshot Plus" makes any space warp a modelling tool. It takes
objects affected by space warps and makes a perfect copy that is
no longer bound to the space warp.
= We would like to thank all the guys in #FX for their expertise and =
= help with all of these Max 2 releases. People from the reject =
= channel #WarezArt are now welcome to knowledge in #FX =

3D Studio Cartoon Reyes 1.2 - Disk 44
CartoonReyes is a rendering program that produces high quality 2D ±
° cartoon images, based on 3D data from scenes. CartoonReyes brings °
to the Cartoon the flexibility of all features of 3D animation such
as camera control, texture mapping, and automatic shading. The
quality and definition of the 'artists' line in an animated sequence
is where CartoonReyes excels, providing outlines and sketch lines
which appear and disappear smoothly and naturally throughout an
animation.
The cartoon esthetic is achieved by the definition of both outlines
and sketch lines, a choice between flat color and gradient colors
(with automatic shading), color outlines, variable brush/line width,
volumetric lighting and the possibility to incorporate 3D PHONG
materials and procedural textures.

3D Studio Cebas MatterWaves V1.1 - Disk 44
What is MatterWaves?
MatterWaves is the latest plug-in
development from cebas computer
Germany. MatterWaves is a 3D
STUDIO MAX particle system plug-in
that brings to you revolutionary
features, usually offered by high
end animation packages only.

3D Studio CeThru RenderEffect 1.0 - Disk 44
CeThru solves the problem of not being able to apply Object / Material ID-based effects when the target in question goes behind a transparent object. In the past when this happened, the ID of the object would become 'obscured' by any transparent surfaces infront of it. Annoying if you want the glow of lights behind a window, or the fiery blast of a spacecraft's engines to appear through the glass porthole of a space station, for example.
CeThru is a quick 'Apply And Forget' effect that at the very least restores all hidden Object and/or Material IDs from behind transparent objects. It also has a powerful feature that lets the user specify 'ID Modifications' - when an ID is restored, the user can choose to change it on the fly. This means that objects can change effects when they pass behind transparent objects (as they would in real life!) - lights can be tinted to the color of the glass, the glow color can be changed - the user can ever change the restored Object IDs into Material IDs and vice versa.

3D Studio Clay Studio Pro 1.87 - Disk 44
The best metaballs program for MAX just got bigger and better! Clay ±
°Studio Pro builds on the interactive foundation laid by Clay °
Studio, and adds a new creation type to the mix: Clay Splines.
Clay Splines allow you to draw out 2D and 3D splines that
essentially have the Clay Spheres strung out along their length.
Modeling sophisticated creatures has never been easier. Clay
Studio Pro also converts standard MAX splines into Clay Splines
as well. Plus with the newly enhanced Sticky Mapping algorithm,
you can assign individual mapping coordinates to two Clay
Splines and when they merge they retain their original mapping!

3D Studio Cloth Reyes 2.0 - Disk 44
ClothReyes is the world's first commercially available cloth ±
° simulator. One year after its initial presentation, there is still °
nothing quite like it on any other 3D-animation package, a fact that
stands as testimony to its unique technology. By applying a series
of properties to a standard mesh, and then modifying these
parameters, different types of behavior can be achieved to simulate
fabrics of varying degrees of softness or different materials
(wool, leather, plastic).
Although its simulation of 'virtual clothing' has been the main
focus of its use to date, the full range applications for ClothReyes
go far beyond recreating fabric behavior. Expanding on the
foundations laid for its revolutionary dynamic behavior in the first
version, ClothReyes 2.0 now includes numerous new features.
NEW FEATURES
- The simulation of collisions between rigid objects is now possible.
Rigid objects endowed with dynamic properties can also collide with
any number moving fabric objects automatically producing the results
of the impacts.
- Cloth can now be "torn".
- Wind parameters can be animated.
- Fixed groups can appear and disappear in middle of an animation.
- New objects can be incorporated in middle of a scene.
- Calculation can start and stop in any time frame.
- Multithreading has been incorporated.
SPECIAL FEATURES
The specially designed fabric parameters allows you to specify
and control:
- The weight of fabric.
- Friction between a fabric and collision objects.
- The inertial resistance of a fabric in movement.
- Resistance to torsion.
- The velocity and direction of wind.

3D Studio Clothreyes 3.0 - Disk 44
The world's first commercially available cloth simulator based on a ±
° technology that detects self-collision within dynamic fabric °
objects. By applying a series of properties to a standard mesh,
different types of behavior can be achieved to simulate fabrics of
varying degrees of softness or different materials (wool, leather,
plastic). Cloth can also be "torn" and stretched.
The specially designed fabric parameters allow you to specify and
control fabric weight, friction, gravity, wind and resistance to
torsion.
ClothReyes 3 is a complete dynamics simulator that allows rigid
objects endowed with dynamic properties to collide with any number
of moving fabric objects, automatically producing the results of
the impacts. With a re-designed interface and a host of new
features such as Behavior
Mapping this new release gives animators much more control over
how their Cloth Fabric objects will behave.
By applying a grayscale map to a cloth object you can very quickly
and precisely determine which areas will be affected by ClothReyes
and which areas will be controlled by previously applied modifiers.

3D Studio Digimation Glider 1.05 - Disk 82
Glider is a set of two powerful space warps for 3D Studio MAX that bind
any object or particle system to the surface of another object. Imagine
how difficult it could be trying to keyframe a car's tires moving across
a very rough terrain. Each pothole and divot would have to be
painstakingly keyed so that the tire appeared to move correctly and not
pass through the surface. Object Glider makes this process nearly
automatic. Simply bind the tires to the Object Glider space warp and
you're done! Now when the tires come into contact with the ground they
will automatically adjust to conform to the topology. The second half of
Glider is the Particle Glider space warp. This amazing plug-in gives you
the ability to have particles flow over another object's surface or
follow any 2D or 3D spline. Create precise smoke trails, waterfalls
that follow the landscape, skywriting, liquid flowing through pipes and
more. Plus it recognizes most 3rd party particle systems including Sand
Blaster and Pandora, so taming particles has never been easier! Glider
should appeal to anyone working with particle systems inside 3D Studio
MAX. It should be especially appealing to those users who are doing
courtroom animations because of it's ability to hold cars to roads,
trains to tracks, etc. It is the perfect companion to Atomizer and
Clay Studio.

3D Studio Digimation Head Designer V1.1e - Disk 82
Head Designer for 3D Studio MAX is the first, true parametric tool for the
creation of humanoid heads within MAX. Using the Head Designer, it's
possible to create and modify a head within minutes. 45+ parametric
controls allow you to adjust the overall head shape, nose, chin, cheeks,
eyes, ears and jaw in seconds. The concept is simple. The plug-in provides
you with very high quality "baseline" head models as your starting point.
Static models of this quality could cost you $300 - $700 each elsewhere.
The baseline heads are implemented as MAX primitive objects, just like a
sphere or box, which you create by simply clicking and dragging. First,
choose a head to act as your primitive object. Then use the built-in
controls to adjust and shape your model. Tweak the controls slightly to keep
the head looking human, or push the controls towards their limits to
create stylized, even cartoonish heads. You'll be surprised at the
combinations and results that are achievable. And you can do it literally
in minutes! Head Designer is great for fast prototyping or quickly
populating your scene with high quality models.

URL: http://www.digimation.com/asp/product.asp?product_id=195

3D Studio DigiPeople 1.0 - Disk 44
DigiPeople is a collection of rocedural,
low-resolution mannequins that can be quickly inserted
into your 3D Studio MAX scenes to help create crowds,
give your models an understandable visual scale and
otherwise populate your scenes. Each model has
approximately 2000 - 3000 faces, so they won't take
up much memory.

3D Studio Essential Textures 2.5 - Disk 44
The Essential Textures are a library of 48 procedural textures for ±
° 3D Studio MAX and 3D Studio VIZ. They are used in the same way as °
the procedural textures that ship with MAX and VIZ.

Common Features found in all of The Essential Textures:
-Any "size" parameters may be automatically rescaled when switching
from XYZ to UVW texture input coordinates.
-Texture antialiasing is user-adjustable.
-All parameters may be fully animated.
-These procedural textures may be used anywhere a bitmap might be
used: to produce bump maps, opacity maps, displacement maps,
environment backgrounds, projection lights, etc.
-We give you optional fractal perturbation of texture input
coordinates-- distort texture space without warping your geometry
to add a little irregularity to even the most regular texture!
-You also get optional post-processing of RGB and HSV values
produced by the textures (HSV adjustments can have angular
dependencies, making fish scales a snap).

3D Studio Female Mesh Packages - Disk 44
For all you grafic masters out there who are fed up modeling for
eons to get a sufficient female body we are proud to present
four (yes four) Female Mesh Packages from MeshFactory.
These packages contain women in different clothes, from a
bussiness suit to a more exciting outfit ;) and you really must
check out the mermaid one.
The meshes comes with excellent texture maps and thumbnails and
with PolyTrans you can convert it for all you non-Maxers :)

3D Studio FMorph 1.0 - Disk 44
This is an Autodesk 3D Studio PXP IPAS roteine
designed to create morphable mesh objects from
any mesh object currently in the scene. The
program creates a result object which is
morphable with the source object, but its shape
looks like the target.
This is the excellent IPAS to create awesome morphing
effects. By some basic 3D Studio knowledge, one
can achieve very interesting and unique effects.
A hint is to place the source object over the target and
experiment by moving either one.

3D Studio Fractal Flow - Disk 44
Fractal Flow MAX is one of the best image processing routines is
being ported to the MAX environment. Fractal Flow uses fractal
based technology to distort an image or specific parts of
an image. Simulate cloaking spaceships, heat distortion, fire.
smoke, clouds, water and more. Settings can be animated over time,
giving you unprecedented control in an image processor. Fractal Flow
takes full advantage of 3D Studio MAX with advanced
features such as distorting only selected objects or materials.

3D Studio Genesis - Disk 44
Genesis is a high-end special effects plugin for 3d studio MAX.
It would be impossible to make a list of all the effects this plugin
could produce, but one might start with : Lens Flares, Heat Distortions,
Glows, Lighting, 2D and 3D Particle Animation etc. Genesis introduces a
completely new way of creating and working with special effects. Rather
than pre-defining the way in which any effect is made,it presents a user
with a set of tools which can be combined in any way.
Genesis compares to other special effects plugins in the same way

3D Studio Glider 2.0 - Disk 45
Glider is a pair of MAX Space Warps that works with MAX objects,
lights, cameras and particle systems and constrains their movement
to the surface topology of another object. Glider comes packed with
two plugins: Object Glider and Particle Glider.
Use Object Glider to move any MAX object, camera, light or spacewarp
across the surface of another object. A perfect example of this
would be a car on a wavy road. Simply bind the car to the Glider
icon and move the car across the road. Glider will hold the car to the
surface of the road (various settings will also let the car hover over
the road or travel underneath it) and keep it from dipping below the
surface.
Other uses would include a ship on water or a bug crawling over leaf.
Particle Glider adds a new level of power to MAX's already strong
particle systems. Use Particle Glider to guide the flow of particles
over the surface of any MAX object. Particle Glider can even send
particles streaming down spline paths. Other features allow you to
create distortion fields for particles useful in creating special
smoke effects.
Glider should appeal to anyone working with particle systems inside MAX.
It should be especially appealing to those users who are doing courtroom
animations because of it's ability to hold cars to roads, trains to
tracks, etc. It is the perfect companion to Atomizer and Clay Studio.

3D Studio Hair 1.2 - Disk 45
Here's the eagerly awaited Maxhair V1.2 from BFH Software. It fixes
some of the problems with the first release and now includes a sample
file. Better have a least 64 MB RAM and a fast cpu cuz this baby is
hungry. One minute hourglasses are not uncommon when calculating
large patches of hairs but the results are worth the wait.

3D Studio Halo & Phaser - Disk 45
HALO and PHASOR may not display particles in the main display on the first frame
of the active segment. This is not an error, but a result of a simplification
which greatly increases particle creation time. Since these routines are
generally used over a specified interval, simply set the first frame one
frame prior to the actual required frame.
HALO and PHASOR may not update particle display when the emitter is linked
in a hierarchy and the hierarchy moves until the user uses the frame
controls on the lower right tool panel.
HALO and PHASOR may not properly recognize scale transformations of the
emitter. This is deliberate. If you scale the emitter during the scene
and the relationship between the axes changes, the particle system
would re-orient. Users of our R3/R4 version thought this an undesirable
feature, so the length relationship of the emitter is determined at
creation time. Thereafter scale transforms will change the shape of the
emitter but not the orientation of the particle system.
A NEW FEATURE for Version 1.1 is the ability to cycle materials when a
composite material is assigned to the emitter. It works like this: When
you construct a composite material with ten sub-materials, the ten sub-
materials will be assigned respectively to the particles created on each
of the first ten frames. In the PARTICLE TYPE/MAPPING roll-up there is now
a checkbox marked "RECYCLE MATERIAL". If this is ON, then the first sub-
material will once again be assigned to the particles created on the
eleventh frame of the emitter's active interval, and so on. If this box is
OFF, then the tenth material will be assigned to all particles created from
the tenth frame on.
The sub-materials may be animations, textures, procedural bitmaps...
There are no restrictions whatsoever. The normal usage of this option is
to build a simple sub-material set whose animations are similar but offset
in time so that particles appear different from one another.

3D Studio Hypermatter 1.1 - Disk 45
HyperMatter 1.1 has been re-designed for 3DSMAX2. The same
flexibility and ease of use as before, but now benefitting from
the vast new range of tools available from the MAX2 palette, and
boasting several new features. Improved functionality and better
feedback now make this an essential part of the creative animator's
armoury!
Blending & Scale
The ability to scale the overall effect of HyperMatter's action on
geometry has now been added. The blending functions that existed in
the main HyperMatter Control object panel is now available from in
a separate panel, accessible by clicking the blending icon in the
HM toolbar.
The previous 'Geometry' option now has several sub-options. These
are enabled when the Geometry box is checked. These options are
'Use Interval' and 'Scale'. When Use Interval is checked the
blending function operates as it did before, with the interval
during which blending is applied accessible via the TrackView.
When Scale is checked the spinner below is enabled, and this
animatable parameter can be accessed. The scale value controls
the degree to which the effect of the HyperMatter Solid object's
motion is transferred to the geometry.
This provides a level of control over the deformation of the
geometry without introducing any performance overhead and without
requiring the user to change any of the substance property values.
Thus if some motion is simply too exaggerated this value can be
used to simply 'turn it down'.
NOTE:To achieve scaling effects without having the blending
interval affect an object's lifespan simply set the blending
period in the lifespan controller (TrackView) to zero. You can do
this by moving the red key to coincide with the end lifespan key.

Features of RLF Pro:

LumaObject:
LumaObject turns any mesh into a light emitter
LumaObject turns any mesh into a light reflector
LumaObject turns any particle system into light particles!
So who needs endless raydiosity calculations when u can
simulate it with LumaObject?
It is ultrafast and features its own highly optimized
lightray calculation methods. Usually LumaObject is 5 times
faster than standard volumetric light calculation. This speed
improvement makes it possible to calculate even hundreds of
light particles with volumetrics turned on!
AABS:
Everytime you create in RealLensFlare a helper object an
automatic analyzing process is done. If you place a helper
object on an object it is analyzed and the object properties
are used for the applied effect. In this case of glow helper
objects the object channel is generated automatically for the
attached object. There is no need to assign a separate object
ID!
Isnt it easy?

No more VideoPost Rendering! Just assign it once and render all
effects from within standart rendering menu.

3D Studio Lip Service 1.206 - Disk 46
The LipService facial animation program is a unique software package
that enables animators to quickly and easily create and animate a huge
variety of facial expressions, mouth movements and phonemes, all with
remarkably realistic results. In addition to animation, LipService
includes some pretty incredible sculpting tools unlike any you've ever
seen. If you've ever mushed clay around, you'll feel right at home.
You can even propagate a modeling change to all 50 poses with one
click!!
LipService animations can be puppeteered in real time with a mouse,
or manually keyframed with a simple one-click operation. Also,
LipService .scene files make an excellent dope sheet to aid in overall
posing and 3D body animation. They're very small, well labled ASCII
files.
LipService also interpolates this animation in a unique way. Target
to target animation is interpolated with a splined motion path for
each vertex. This means perfect velocity continuity across keys - no
morphy looking animation. On top of that, you can layer delta morph
animation for eyeblinks, smiles, frowns, eyemovement, breathing...
these layers get added to your keyframed layer and can be performed
in real-time with the mouse.
When animating or previewing, you can scrub your WAV file a frame at
a time, or play it back real-time. Changes you make to models
immediately update your animation display for instant feedback. You
may also quickly render a solid flipbook if you are an a slow machine.
Integration with 3D Studio is included in the form of plugins which
read your .scene file into the respective packages. The plugins
evaluate the scene on a subframe basis, which means you're renders
motion blur. It also means you can change the frame rate without
re-animating. Animated something for film, now you want to go to video
without 3/2 pulldown? Just change the framerate in 3D Studio and
re-render!
LipService Also includes 50 targets (Zeke's face) for
tutorial/quickstart learning. You don't need to be technical to learn.
This package's animation tools should be very familiar to animators
and puppeteers alike. The sculpting tools should be familiar to anyone
who's ever used clay. Most people are animating in 10 minutes.
Version 1.206 of LipService has the following new features:
- OpenGL performance greatly improved 2x-3x.

Note: The DOS error "too many parameters" when opening models
is a bug in the program, not an error in the crack. It happens
with the dongle version too and only appears sometimes for some
users.

3D Studio Luminaire Global Illumination Tools - Disk 82
See the world in a whole new light! Luminaire gives 3D Studio MAX and
VIZ lighting control you never thought possible. Add advanced radiosity
lighting to your scene to give it that extra sense of realism. Have a
swimming pool naturally reflect and refract light, producing those
caustic effects you would expect. Turn any object, including particle
systems, into a source of light. All of this and more, and you never
have to leave your modelling and animation environment -- Luminaire
is seamlessly integrated into 3D Studio MAX and VIZ!

3D Studio Metareyes 3 - Disk 46
Organic Modeling Plugin for 3D Studio Max
Metaballs have been used as a cool organic 3d modeling tool for years.
MetaReyes 3.0 is a new 3d modeling tool that eliminates the need to
use large numbers of metaballs to build a complex model.
A new primitive, the Metamuscle, can appear as a muscle or bone,
users can define different radii for every control point of the spline.
Dynamic muscular motion capabilities compatible with Character Studio
and its precision computing of muscle dynamics lets you endow your models
with true to life motion (muscles do move).
For more information on MetaReyes 3.0 see:
http://www.infografica.com/m_reyes/index.html

3D Studio Metareyes 4.0 - Disk 46
The metamuscle primitive -exclusive to MetaReyes 4.0- is a ±
° revolutionary new concept in advanced modeling techniques with 3D °
Studio MAX. With metamuscles you can easily and accurately reproduce
real muscles in motion, achieving very realistic organic
simulations. Models that once were forbiddingly complex or that
required interminable rendering times may now be created quickly and
easily with the tools offered by MetaReyes 4.0.
Most tools now available for modeling complex surfaces or 3D objects
call for great exertions by the user to determine the positions of
the control points which generate the vertices and polygons that make
up the surface. The process is even more difficult when the topology
of the object to be modeled does not conform to the patterns
envisioned by the developers of such tools.
Classic geometrical methods, such as nurbs or patches, offer many
options for constructing surfaces, but all involve great technical
complexity. Imagine, for instance, an animation depicting an oil
slick spreading over a table and falling off the edge. It is easy to
describe, but not at all easy to achieve with standard geometrical
surface-generation tools. Now imagine doing the same job "honestly",
i.e. building a surface where the vertices respond realistically to
the contours of such a liquid, and the liquid separates and rejoins.
In such cases and many others, the conventional tools are simply not
able to construct the models we call "organic", when our intention is
to achieve complex structures with forms similar to those found in
nature. Why nature? Because it supplies the greatest wealth of
objects, textures, forms and colors. It is the real world that we are
attempting to reproduce.
These difficulties have led many people to conclude that in order to
make a complex model with a computer you have to be a mathematical
genius with a limitless imagination, as well as an expert user of
extremely complicated graphics software. With the MetaReyes 4.0
plug-in a whole world of possibilities is opened up -organic and
unconventional objects can be created with astounding simplicity and
speed. Here -at last- is a modeling program whose capacity is limited
only by the user's imagination.
The most important feature of the program is that you needn't concern
yourself with placing the vertices or the polygons, but only with the
final appearance of the surface. Suppose that you are going to make a
model in clay. Perhaps you already have a vague idea of what you want
to make, but you have not yet worked out all the details. You begin
with a formless lump of clay. Gradually, by shaping, adding and
removing small pieces of clay, you give the object form, until you
consider it finished. This is a fair description of how MetaReyes
4.0 works.
With MetaReyes 4.0, the modeling of organic objects is a task that
can be addressed by an artist with very limited computer or technical
skills. Matter can be added, subtracted and shaped until the user is
satisfied with the result. This is what MetaReyes 4.0 offers through
metamuscles.

3D Studio Metareyes 5.0 - Disk 46
Now in its fifth release, MetaReyes remains at the forefront of the ±
° most advanced organic modeling and animation tools available for °
MAX.
To model with MetaReyes you interactively sculpt a model exactly as
though you were modeling with clay by simply adding meta-primitives
of positive or "subtractive" mass. These specially designed
primitives provide instant visual feedback on the creation process.
MetaMuscles reduce to a minimum the number of primitives required
to model an object simplifying the tasks of editing and animation.
In addition to standard features such as dynamic muscular motion,
adaptive polygonization and sticky texture maps, release 5 includes
the following new features:
The new Morph Maker module adds, for the first time, the power of
slider-based mix-morphing to MetaReyes, making it a character
animation tool without equal, as well as opening the possibility
for all sorts of exciting new animation effects.
A complete re-design of the MetaReyes interface with a focus on
streamlining the workflow makes this release more efficient to work
with, and much easier to learn and remember.

3D Studio Morph Magic 1.0 And Tutorials - Disk 46
MorphMagic is an incredible new Shape Animation plug-in for 3D Studio
MAX. This plug-in has been designed as a tool to assist MAX users in
doing complex facial, hand, and other shape animation. MorphMagic
allows users to control shape animation to a greater extent than what is
possible with standard modifiers, linked xforms, or bone systems. It has
also been designed to operate in conjunction with Character Studio, so
that animators can do both full-body motion with Character Studio, and
complex facial animation and hand animation with MorphMagic.
MorphMagic operates as an object modifier in the standard 3D Studio MAX
interface. You first create a series of morph targets for the object to
be animated. You then apply the MorphMagic modifier to a base or
neutral morph target, which brings up the MorphMagic interface. You
then select each additional target placing it into a weighted channel.
Then you just turn on the animate button, and drag the channel sliders to
mix and blend the morph shapes. Animating speech and expressions has
never been easier or more enjoyable!

3D Studio NuGraf Polytrans 2.0 With Max Plug-In - Disk 46
Polytrans is the best 3D object convertor around. Lets face it,
we could repeat what anyone could read off the website like some
groups do, but anyone in the know already knows the power and
simplicity of this program. If you want to read all about it in

3D Studio Outburst 1.1 - Disk 46
OUTBURST uses the natural laws of physics, so its realistic ±
° motions are automatically generated based on user-defined °
constraints and the physical forces in the scene, rather than key
frames, which can be a slow and tedious way to create realism.
Instead, user-defined constraints and physical forces control the
scene. By animating the numerous parameters and force fields,
complex effects are easily created. Even high-end custom effects
are now practical using MAX Expressions to define custom forces
for your scene. Natural Forces of gravity, wind, electric and
magnetic fields simulate real world dynamics. Decay allows new
particles to spawn from others for a myriad of effects especially
useful in fire scenes, including tiers of fireworks or fire sparks
turning into ashes. Turbulence and Noise functions add Realism to
smoke and other vapor scenes.
Particle Trails can be animated with opacity and color gradients
for creating fibers, grass, or to quickly add simulated-motion blur
to objects. Unlimited Interacting Particles, and Efficient memory
use let you set your imagination free. Pre-Defined Effects that you
can edit include: fire, smoke, rain, explosions, fireworks, etc. Or
design Custom Effects based on unique force fields you define using
the MAX Expression Controller.
Create sophisticated high-end effects previously only possible with
the most advanced tools or custom programming. And, because OUTBURST
is fully integrated into MAX, you can create powerful, realistic
effects quickly and easily!
Collisions of multiple particle streams (like or different) that
scatter upon impact help create dramatic collision effects like
intersecting laser beams. Transformations of multiple particle
streams generating new particles enhance effects like chemical
reactions, smoke, welding, explosions, sparks, dust, vapors, etc.
Precise Collisions allow subtle effects -- like rain dripping off
an umbrella, spray paintng, or smoke blowing through a fan -- to be
created with incredible realism.

3D Studio Progress Hook 1.0 - Disk 46
Progress Hook is a plug-in that addresses a small problem in the new Render Effects interface. When using render effects that have large user interfaces, the progress bar for the render effect queue gets hidden off the top of the rollup window. For example, Lens Effects will often obscure the progress bar when used on a standard screen resolution.
What Progress Hook will do is install a watcher into the render effect user interface that will take the current task and its completed amount and put it into the titlebar of the window. In this way, the user can always see what is being updated and when the various tasks have been completed.

3D Studio Raymax 2.0 - Disk 46
While the Blur Material Raytracer included with 3DSMAX R2 is nice, ±
° many have found it to be slow. Absolute is the first company to °
bring us a commercial 3rd party plugin to increase the speed and
quality of your 3DSMAX R2 renders.
Some of the features include:
- Seamless integration into 3D Studio MAX
- Selective raytracing - select only the object you want to raytrace
- Multi-Threading
- Network rendering
- Raytraced shadows, Raytraced soft shadows, Shadow maps Animation,
Motion Blur, Field Rendering
- All 3D MAX special effects like Volume Lights, Volume Fog, etc.
- Accessable from Video Post - Plug-Ins like RealLensFlare are
rendered correctly!
- RayMax is programmable. Build your own Shaders with RayMax
and the MAX SDK

3D Studio RayMax 2.5 - Disk 46
RayMax is a powerful hybrid scanline renderer/raytracer that works as a
plug in for 3D Studio Max. Ray tracing has long been famous for its
ability to create ultra realistic scenes by accurately calculating
shadows, reflections and refractions.

3D Studio Real Flow 1.1 - Disk 46
RealFlow introduces a new fluid simulation algorithm using particle
systems. The algorithm is based on real fluid dynamics equations and
it's quite CPU intensive, which allows RealFlow to achieve a high degree
of realism. RealFlow is able to simulate several different kinds of
fluids. The behavior of the fluid depends on some parameters such as
viscosity, pressure, drag factors, etc. Fluid particles also interact
with moving objects (triangle meshes). Thanks to these two features, an
advanced fluid dynamics engine and a robust collision detection engine,
RealFlow is able to achieve astonishingly realistic results.
The main difference between RealFlow and other commercial particle
systems currently in the market is the capability of self-interaction
of RealFlow particles. In other similar programs particle motion is
governed only by external forces such as magnetic fields, gravitational
fields, wind, etc. RealFlow considers the whole particle system as a
continuous medium in which fluid particles are able to transmit many
kinds of information to their neighbors. This unique feature allows
RealFlow to accurately simulate fluid media in a way never seen before
in any other program of its category, effectively bringing fluid
dynamics to the desktop computer.

3D Studio Real Lens Flare 1.53 - Disk 46
Now you can enjoy the fastest object motion blur ever seen on PC!
RLF 1.53 will allow you to calculate object motion blur up to
20 times faster than MAX's own motion blur!!!

There is a new helper object called MOTION BLUR.
The two values are:
Blur Factor : this value controls how blurred the object gets
Object Chan. : this value represents the Object channel
RealLensFlare was the first Plug-In to offer motion blur for lensflare
effects. The calculation is done on the amount of pixels traveled between
two frames. This will result in a direction and speed vector generating
the motion blur effect. Now you can use the same routine to generate
motion blur for any 3D object.
To activate motion blur for an object or group of objects just choose
a motion blur helper and click it onto the object! And that's allyou need.
RLF automatically assigns an Object channel to the object and if you
render your scene in Video Post you can see the result in seconds!
As you already know it, in Video Post setup there are two new entries to
render the motion blur effect or to render hidden motion blur helper
objects.

3D Studio Real Lens Flare Pro 1.58 - Disk 46
At least! RealLensFlare Pro for Max2. Look for the Max1.x version ±
° of it which we released too. °
Get rid of that slow LenzFX (just delete apollo.flt :]!) to free
space for a 30 time faster and way better plug!

3D Studio Real People 1.0 - Disk 46
Realpeople is a plug-in for 3Dstudio MAX and VIZ that lets you ²
±incorporate actual people within your 3d environments. With ±
°realpeople animators can fill a scene without adversely affecting °
rendering time. The interface is easy, just choose the person you
want to drop into the scene, click once to place and another to point
him or her in the direction you want. Simple.
How It Works:
After placing a person in the scene, a realpeople icon will appear in
all viewports. At render time the icon goes away. The Plug-in then
figures out at what angle you are viewing the person. The
corresponding image is then pulled from the realpeople library and
rendered. This gives the illusion that a complete 3d real person
exists in the scene.
Limitations:
The technique used by the realpeople plug-in allows for people or
objects to be viewed from 360 degrees around the Z-axis. The images
we use to create the illusion of a 3D volume are recorded from
approximately eye level. There are no images recorded "above" or
"below" the person. We have found that this technique holds up until
the camera reaches approximately 35 or 40 degrees as depicted in the
graphic below. We encourage you to experiment with the demo to better
understand these limitations.

3D Studio Sandblaster 1.1b - Disk 46
Sand Blaster is a plugin particle generator for 3DS MAX in which you can
create multiple objects from one object. For example, you can create a
scene in which you would want a school of fish swimming underwater. All
you have to do is create one animated fish then apply Sand Blaster to it
to create multiple fish for the school needed in the scene. Sand Blaster
can be used to recreate such things as blood cell flow, schools of fish,
swarms of bees, flock of birds, explosions, evaporation's, tornadoes etc.
Sand Blaster has what's called Emitters and Targets.

and Targets.
" Emitters: The main source or the creator of the particles in an
animation. Any object can be used as the emitter in a scene such as an
already made object in MAX or one made by the user. This emitter
object will determine the shape and movement of each particle it sets
off into the scene. (i.e. create a bird flapping it's wings and moving
along a specified path, then apply SB and the amount of birds
(particles) you want in the scene. Those multiple birds (particles) will
flap their wings and follow the same path.)
" Targets: Are used to create precise paths for particles or have
particles reassemble themselves into any shape or form. (i.e., If an
emitter is set up as a logo and the target set as a phone number; the
particles will disassemble as the the logo and move to were the target
sits and reassemble themselves in the shape of the phone number.)

3D Studio Shag Fur 1.3 - Disk 46
Shag: Fur is an environment plugin for 3D Studio MAX that is used ±
° to add fur (and to a small degree long hair) to an object's °
surface.
Since it does not create geometry for individual hairs, it is quick
and even though no real geometry is generated, fur can cast and
receive shadows and hilights.
Shag: Fur allows you to control exactly where the fur is applied,
the density, color, thickness, direction, leaning and bend of the
hairs. What's more, separate texture maps can be used for most of
these options to provide complete control. For example a texture
map of a tiger skin can be used for fur color so that the fur hairs
derive their color from the map image, while a separate map can be
used to control where the hairs are thick and thin. Almost all of
these parameters are animatable, so subtle motion, growing and
color changes are all possible.

3D Studio Sisyphus Proteus 1.1 - Disk 82
PROTEUS is a powerful new metaball package which includes a full
complement of metaprimitives, the Proteus MetaSurface, and a modifier
form of Proteus which can turn normal objects into metasurfaces. Proteus
offers built-in scaling controls, negative tension capabilities, and
color-coded wireframes according to tension. Proteus was a Greek god, in
mythology, who could change his shape at will. We think Proteus'
incredible power to mould his body to suit any whim fits very well with
the design of a metaball package, which allows you almost unlimited
flexibility in creating whatever forms you choose.

3D Studio Smirk 1.1 - Disk 46
The new Smirk keyframe facial animation system from LambSoft extends the
character animation capabilities of 3D Studio Max. Smirk offers intimate
control of expressions and lip-synching for higher quality characters, in
less time, with less effort. There's no need to model head after head
with complete expressions - Smirk does the work for you. With Smirk,
start with a base head; (modeled in 3DS Max or imported from another PC
or SGI-based 3D system); copy and modify it to create a set of heads with
sub-expressions for mouth, nose, etc. Keep it simple, or add as many
simultaneous sub-expressions to facial features as you like, then Smirk
combines them seamlessly to give you a composite head for each frame in
the animation. Use an audio track to match animation to speech perfectly.
Use motion capture with Smirk to capture unique looks - any output
controls a channel in Smirk.

3D Studio Soft Selection Painter 1.0 - Disk 46
MAX R3.0 brings new 'soft selection' technology that allows strength falloff for modifier effects, effectively 'softening' the results across object surfaces. Presently, there are only a couple of ways to apply soft selections - mainly using Edit Mesh or Mesh Select to define diminishing influence from hard-selected verticies.
Soft Selection Paint provides a fast and powerful new way to apply these selections, by using interactive viewport painting, directly onto the object's surface, in a style not dissimilar to that of a 2D paint program. It also includes options for masking and mirroring, to allow quick and powerful editing of symmetrical or complex objects.

3D Studio SoftSelection Converter 1.0 - Disk 46
Soft Selection Converter is a simple but powerful new modifier that allows the user to process soft selections on objects and change them into other types of selection. In this way, users can use Soft Selection Painter or Volume Select to create soft selections and then turn them into polygon face selections for use with modifiers such as Material ID or Face Extrude. In this way, users can actually paint nearly any modifier effect, using Soft Selection Painter and Soft Selection Converter.

3D Studio Spray Master 1.01 - Disk 46
Spray Master is our new tool that allows a user to
spray geometry, both 2-D and 3-D, as particles on
or around other objects with an easy to use
freehand brush. Particles emitted by Spray Master
can be placed above or below the geometry surface,
and what's more, users can define layers so that
the particles begin to accumulate, which makes it
easy to create realistic rubble in no time.
Do you need to precisely place lots of geometry in
your scenes, but found that Scatter was too
limiting in its approach? Then Spray Master is the
tool you need. Spray Master is a freehand and
spline based particle painting tool that allows
users to spray particles on any MAX standard
geometry in any orthographic viewport. If you need
lots of particles in one location, simply spray in
one spot. Particles will "stick" to the surface of
all MAX objects, and can even be told to
I accumulate with each successive stroke, giving
users the ability to quickly generate piles of
rubble, shaving cream or snow drifts in no time.
Plus, Spray Master gives you the ability to select
and use any single or multiple MAX standard
geometry objects as custom particles to be
sprayed.

3D Studio Stars - Disk 46
This plug-in Video Post filter allows you to generate realistic starfields with motion blur in 3D Studio MAX.

3D Studio Surface Suite 1.1 - Disk 46
SurfaceSuite MAX is a system of plug-ins for 3D Studio MAX that ±
° makes the process of texturing complex 3D models very simple and °
fast. Instead of having to push pixels with 3D paint programs or
unwrap meshes to facilitate texturing, SurfaceSuite MAX allows the
user to take any 2D texture, like a scanned photo or a Photoshop
image and map it directly onto a complex 3D model with complete
control and flexibility. There is no need for rotoscoping, blue-
screening, or time-consuming blending. It allows the user to
achieve unprecedented levels of photorealism in a fraction of
the time that it currently takes using paint programs and
standard UV mapping techniques.

3D Studio Surface Suite 3.02 - Disk 82
SurfaceSuite PRO gives 3D professionals the power to easily
apply, blend and composite multiple 2D textures onto complex 3D
objects. SurfaceSuite PRO is a dramatic improvement over the
built-in texturing capabilities of 3D modeling packages and 3D
paint programs.
Features:
Real-time Interactive Texturing
Watch the texture warp on the model as you add and move control
points.
Resolution Independence.
Great for textures and models in everything from real-time games
to movie closeups.
Multiple Texture Layering
Real-time Alpha blending, infinite layers, and masks allow the
arbitrary placement of multiple blended textures in different
orientations.
Fuzzy Mapping
Automatic accounting for user error in control point placement
that would otherwise result in obvious texture mapping
inconsistencies and artifacts.
Relaxation Mapping.
Generate a texture-coordinate mapping that is optimized for even
surface distribution of textures over an object to eliminate
streaking and pinching.
Global Map Generation
Composite multiple blended textures into one contiguous texture
map for export into other 3D packages and for real-time
applications.

3D Studio Surface Tools - Disk 46
Surface Tools consists of two object modifiers: Surface and CrossSection. Both modifiers work by taking an underlying structure of 2D Splines, then skinning and creating patch surfaces based on their orientation. This gives the user a completely flexible way to generate complex organic shapes, that would otherwise be very difficult to make using default MAX methods. And since both modifiers leave the underlying spline structure intact, if the user doesn't like the resulting surface, they can go back in the object's Modifier Stack and adjust the splines to suit their needs.
CrossSection is a tool used to stitch multiple spline ribs together. It takes a single spline shape object that contains multiple unconnected splines and connects their cross sections together to form valid 3 or 4-sided polygons. CrossSection can build a skin across various shaped splines with different vertex counts and open/closed status. Once this is accomplished, the original spline can then be used with the Surface modifier.
The second modifier, Surface, is the main engine of Surface Tools that allows the user to generate patch surfaces from interwoven splines. Any segments that form a 3 or 4-sided closed polygon will create a surface that will be patched. Surface is also completely compatible with both Character Studio and Bones Pro MAX, so for character animators, this tool is a "must have".

3D Studio Surfreyes 1.0 - Disk 46
SurfReyes is an extremely powerful tool for generating complex
surfaces of varying curvature. Based on the principle of
"Subdivision surfaces", SurfReyes acts upon an initial control
mesh, to generate one continuous, smooth, and easily animatable
surface. It brings to the modeler for the first time the power of
a tool which allows complete control in the creation of 3D models
form low resolution meshes. Its approach solves the modeling
problems traditionally associated with other methods (such as
NURBS) when working with arbitrary topology, trimming etc. Put the
detail where you need it! - SurfReyes analyses the topology of the
control mesh, taking into account the degree of surface curvature
to refine the final result. The areas of the model that present a
higher local curvature will be progressively refined with the
appropiate amount of detail while in flat areas, the model remains
unchanged.

3D Studio Sysiphus Aegis - Disk 46
Aegis is Omniflectors supporting refraction and diffusion, and
Dynaflectors that intergrate any particle system and Max2 dynamics

3D Studio Terrex FLT - Disk 46
This is a plugin for 3D Studio MAX that can

editing for real-time applications.

3D Studio Texture Lab 2.0 - Disk 46
Texture Lab: Elemental Tools is a collection of 6 procedural mapping
types representing Fire, Water, Fog, Electrics, Strata and Noise.
These procedurals work in much the same way as the ones that ship
with MAX, such as Dents or Marble, and can be used in any combination
to produce stunning effects - everything from animated swirling clouds
and water caustics, to jittery electricity or skin. All of the map
types are animatable and loopable (except for Fire) which means that
a user doesn't need to render out hundreds of frames to get a
"repeatable" animated pattern. Each of the textures utilize 6 color
knots that can be altered for an infinite variety of patterns. Since
all of Texture Lab's maps work in the standard Material Editor, most
of the parameters are animatable over time as well. One other unique
feature of Texture Lab: Elemental Tools is that unlike the procedurals
that ship with MAX, the 6 Tlab maps can be automatically converted from
XYZ mapping coordinates to UVW, with a single check box.
The package consists of 1 routine that appears as 6 map types in the
Material Editor:
Elemental Tools - These appear in the Material Editor as six new map
types:
1.Elemental Fire
2.Elemental Water
3.Elemental Fog
4.Elemental Electrics
5.Elemental Strata
6.Elemental Noise
All of these maps may be referenced wherever a normal bitmap might be
used. Hence, Texture Lab maps can be used in projector spotlights as
well as on objects!

3D Studio Texture Lab Tiling Tools 1.0 - Disk 46
Texture Lab: Tiling Tools is the sequel to the original Texture ±
° Lab: Elemental Tools plugin. Like the original Texture Lab: °
Elemental Tools, Texture Lab: Tiling Tools is a collection of
material maps. These maps may be applied to any map channel in any
material, but are generally used in the Diffuse, Opacity, and/or
Bump map channels. For example, using these maps in the opacity
channel is a quick, yet powerful way for creating a variety of
cages and grates. These maps may also be used as Displacement
and Environment maps, providing you with a wealth of opportunity
for creating unique objects and environments.
Texture Lab: Tiling Tools is designed to create a wide variety of
repetitive procedural patterns that tile seamlessly across the
surface of an object. Because of the procedural nature of these
plugins, you can quickly and easily modify any parameter to make
subtle changes or drastic changes in how the material looks. In
many cases, this can also be animated.
Texture Lab: Tiling Tools is composed of three map plugins:
Tiling Geometry, Tiling Lattice, and Tiling Tesselations.
The Tiling Geometry map enables you to create tiled geometric
shapes, such as rectangles, polygons, stars, and circles. These
shapes are placed on two different layers that are then mixed in
a variety of ways. This map is excellent for creating tileable
wallpapers, or other surfaces where you might see a lot of
repetitive geometry. Tiling geometry is an excellent map for use
in creating multi-layered materials and textures. You can overlay
as many layers of geometry as necessary to create any effect that
you might want.

3D Studio Visual Steps - Disk 46
Via the standard Max parameter rollout you can click and drag to ±
° indicate the height of the stairs, and then further define the °
height and depth of the individual stairs, a landing and it's
depth, and finally the direction of the stairs after the landing.
Stairs are normally created in a right to left or vice versa
direction. You may choose to have the stairs come toward you after
the landing, turn away from you, reverse direction to the near
side (the lower steps are closer to you than the upper steps, or
reverse direction to the far side where the upper steps are nearer
to you. Last but not least, you may also create an in-line landing
so that the landing is just the same as a long (or deep) step. An
option for generating texture mapping is also available.

3D Studio XRay 1.20 - Disk 46
X-Ray is a transparent effects plug-in for 3D Studio Max. It works
mainly through the use of a variety of materials. Most effects use
sub-materials to perform the shading, so it's compatible with the
standard materials, and materials found in a third-party raytracer.
X-Ray includes some powerful materials, and they all extend X-Ray's
ability to see through objects in your scene. X-Ray Transparent will
render a different material when seen through a transparent object.
X-Ray Reflection will render a different material when seen through
a reflection. X-Ray Lights allow you to create special effects using
materials that respond to scene illumination.
X-RAY SERVER "Learn about the powerful raycasting engine behind
X-Ray, and how it makes all the X-Ray pieces come
together creating the effects in this plug-in for 3D Studio Max."
X-Ray server is an automatic feature, it doesn't require any settings
in your scene. It will popup in the video post progress window
automatically.
X-RAY GLOW "If you have every wanted to Glow an object from
behind a transparent material, then this image
filter will solve all your frustrating problems." X-Ray Glow allows
you to define new special effects channels for objects covered by a
transparent object. It's simple to use, and completely user definable.
You can change the effect channel based upon a condition of what
objects are in front.
X-RAY FLARE "This image filter will allow you to create lens
flare effects from behind a transparent material,
while using your favorite animatible lens flare package, LenzFX"
X-Ray Flare allows the placement of lens flare's behind a transparent
object. The effect is controlled by an Track View controller, so you
can bind the opacity control to any parameter of the flare. Render
different Streak intensities, or even change the size of the glow.
It's so simple to control, just assigning the controller to the
intensity parameter will be enough to flicker the flare.
X-RAY TRANSPARENT "Create amazing special effects with your materials
from behind transparent objects." X-Ray Transparent
allows you to create materials that change depending upon what
transparent objects pass in front of them. Only the covered area of the
object is modified, and if there are no foreground objects then the
default material is used.
X-RAY REFLECTION / REFRACTION "Create amazing special effects with your
materials when seen through a reflection
/ refraction." X-Ray Reflection/Refraction will render a different
material if it is seen through a reflection, or it will use a normal
material is it's seen through the camera. You can also assign X-Ray
Transparent as a normal material giving you a different material based
upon transparency and reflection at the same time.
X-RAY MATERIAL MASK "Build material special effect channels for
processing by your favorite image filter, with out
effecting the original material used to color the object." X-Ray Mask
allows you to use a texturemap to define where on an object the Material
Effect should be shown. It gives you the same ability as "clamping to a
color", but now you can have that functionality in image filters that
doesn't provide it.
X-RAY LIGHTS 'Required for effects in scene' Note: This feature
requires 3D Studio Max 2.0

Adobe Illustrator 9.0 - Disk 41
This is Adobe Illustrator 9.0, the most eagerly anticipated
release of the year in the desktop publishing world.
The industry-standard vector graphics creation software for
print and the Web Adobe® Illustrator® 9.0 expands your
creative freedom and enhances your productivity with its
new Web graphics tools, versatile transparency capabilities,
powerful object and layer effects, and other innovative
features. Now you can use these fast, flexible tools to
transform your creative ideas into sophisticated graphics
for use on the Web, in print, or in dynamic media projects.
WHAT'S NEW IN ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR 9.0?
1. Flash and SVG output
With Adobe® Illustrator® 9.0, you can preserve your artwork
in vector form when exporting it for the Web. Illustrator
9.0 provides excellent support for exporting files to Flash
(SWF) format, as well as to the new Scalable Vector Graphics
(SVG) standard. Both Web vector formats maintain high-quality
artwork and fonts, while producing smaller file sizes and
faster download times than bitmap formats. Flash is widely
used to design vector-based Web pages and Web animations;
when exporting graphics to this format, you have the option
of exporting the entire graphic to a single SWF file;
exporting each layer to a separate frame in a single SWF
file; or exporting each layer to a separate SWF file.
SVG is an emerging, completely open standard that was
developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and numerous
industry players, including Adobe Systems, IBM, Netscape, Sun,
Corel, Hewlett-Packard, and others. The SVG standard provides
all the benefits of the Flash format, plus support for the
following features: Type 1 and TrueType fonts, extensible
markup language (XML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS),
interactive actions, and dynamic HTML animation. When
preparing SVG output, you can assign scripted events to
objects using the SVG Interactivity palette, and then
export that information with the file. Illustrator also ships
with the SVG Viewer plug-in, which works with different
browsers to play back SVG graphics and Web pages.
2. Pixel Preview
Because the vector artwork that you create in Illustrator
will be rasterized upon output to the Web, it's useful to
monitor your work in terms of pixels. Illustrator 9.0 lets
you specify pixels as a global measurement unit for sizing,
editing, and laying out your artwork. You can also preview
your vector objects as they will appear when rasterized in
a Web browser. Working in Pixel Preview mode guarantees that
your objects will snap to the nearest pixel edge in order to
minimize anti-aliasing. You can draw and edit artwork in
this mode.
3. Instant drop shadows, glows, and live shapes
New commands under the Effect menu let you convert type
and graphic objects to editable rectangular or elliptical
shapes, which can be especially useful for creating Web
buttons. These shapes can contain fully editable type
objects and appearances; when you modify or transform a
shape, its contents update automatically.
The Stylize commands under the Effect menu let you apply
appearances such as drop shadows and glows directly to
type and graphic objects while retaining full vector
editability of the objects.
4. Release to Layers command
The new Release to Layers command lets you instantly
distribute all of the objects on a layer onto separate,
individual layers. You can use this feature to prepare
files for further Web animation work in other applications
that support layers. For example, you can prepare
different frames of an animation by first applying blend
options to objects or using the scatter brush to paint
repeated copies of an object along a path. You can then
release each object in the blend or scattered path to a
separate layer, and export the file as a Flash (SWF) file
or to Adobe Photoshop® 5.5 to set up the animation. By
pressing Shift as you choose the Release to Layers
command, you can distribute objects onto separate layers
in a cumulative sequence. For example, you can create a
layer containing the first object, a layer containing
the first and second objects, a layer containing the
first, second, and third objects, and so on. This procedure
is especially useful for building animation sequences. ³
5. Unlimited transparency capabilities
The new Transparency palette lets you apply transparency
to any graphic object, bitmap image, or type character in
your artwork so that underlying objects are partially or
fully revealed. You can vary the transparency settings for
every character, word, or paragraph in a text block, and
even create cumulative effects by applying individual
settings to characters and then applying an overall
setting to an entire text block. Objects and text remain
fully editable with transparency applied.
You also have the option of limiting transparency to a
layer, to a group of objects, or to an object's stroke or
fill to achieve different creative results. To apply
transparency to multiple objects, simply Shift-click to
select the objects and then set the transparency. To apply
transparency to a layer, first target the layer in the
Layers palette and then set the transparency. The
transparency setting then affects the entire layer as a
single object - any graphics on the layer, and any you
add later on, immediately assume the transparency of
the layer.
6. Opacity and Layer mask
Two new masking features - Opacity masks and Layer
Clipping masks - let you selectively hide and reveal areas
of your artwork through custom shapes. Using the
Transparency palette, you can define any object as an
opacity mask, so that artwork attached to the mask takes
on modified transparency. The grayscale equivalents of
the colors in the mask correspond to different levels
of mask transparency. By editing the shape, placement,
and fill of the mask, you can achieve sophisticated
effects such as variable transparency across an object.
Clipping masks, which are defined through the Layers
palette, let you reveal a set of underlying objects
through a clipping shape.
7. Feathering
The Feather command under the Effect > Stylize menu
softens the transition between foreground and background
objects. As with other effects, the feathering effect
can be applied nondestructively to vector objects and
type.
8. Overprint preview
With Illustrator 9.0, you can preview your overprint
settings to proof trapping and spot-color effects before
you go to press. You can, for example, preview on-screen
how a spot-color object will overprint other objects.
9. Effects
Use the many commands under the new Effect menu to apply
nondestructive visual effects to graphic objects, bitmap
images, and type in your artwork. These effects preserve
the full editability of the objects to which they are
applied; you can continue to reshape, resize, transform,
and retype the objects with the assurance that the effects
will update with your edits. You can even remove an effect
from an object without having to re-create the object
from scratch.
AND MUCH MORE!
