Baileywick’s Cultural Arts Program

Celebrating the Arts and the Cultures that formed these Diverse Art Forms

The PTA Cultural Arts Committee is very excited to partner with the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County to bring these programs to our school for the 2007-2008 year.  Our teachers will be provided with study guides for each performance to be used to enhance our children’s learning experience.  For questions regarding our Cultural Arts program contact Ann Longrie at alongrie@nc.rr.com

Ways to Start the Art in Your Family

  • Explore family history, folk art and culture

Family Tree! We will create this family tree on the hallway wall for all to see!  Discuss with your child your heritage and help create your child’s leaf for the Baileywick.

  • Celebrate the amazing art programs at Baileywick! All BE students are exposed to weekly art and music lessons-Wow!

Checkout the vast display of student artwork at our school!  This is a rotating exhibit all over the school!!

  • Attend a concert, play or dance show.

ALL students will see four performances this year!  These performances are listed below.

Performances are  paid for by your PTA and grants from United Arts Council of Raleigh and  Wake County.

  • Inspire your child to write, draw, dance, compose or even star in a movie.

Encourage your child to enter the Reflections contest!  For more information on Reflections, visit the Reflections link on this website.

  • Visit a museum. Have you checked out the new Marbles Children’s Museum?  This museum is located in the Exploris Building.

The Marbles Children's  Museum has a new exhibit, “Children Just Like Me”, where students can explore life ways of children from different places in the world!

Visit one of the three art museums we are blessed with in the Triangle area!  Did you know that Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Durham all boast of fine art museums!

In order to help Start the Art in your family, we've listed a few links to some of the Triangle's performances and museums that we think might be of interest:

Second and Fourth Grades Writers-in-Residence

It is a tradition at Baileywick that the second and fourth graders have writers come in each year.  These writers are at Baileywick for an entire week, spending 1 hour in each classroom each day of the week.

  • Barbara Cleary “The Lovable Poet” returns to the second grade this year where students have a unique opportunity for in-depth exploration of the wonderful world of poetry.

  • Suzanne Newton returns to Balieywick’s 4th graders this year. Her program The Eye, The Ear, The Voice explores the language of poetry that grows out of sensory experience and contains our best thoughts and feelings.  This approach enhances our writing whether it be a poem, a story, or a personal narrative.
