AND two zip files with the 12 route files included.
If these don't work for you, if you have problems,
or if you have suggestions, please let me know ASAP.

NOTE: FOLLOW COURSE MARKERS AND
CUE SHEETS PUBLISHED AT THE EVENT!
Every effort has been made to make these GPS files accurate,
but there may be route changes or updates between now

GPS Files - Take Your Choice
Last updated 11:50 pm. Sunday, 9/7/2008

Master.zip -- contains Master.gdb file.
This Garmin Database Ver.3 GDB file contains all 12 route files and all waypoints.
If you can use this file, I strongly recommend it!

MSBikeGPX.zip - 12 individual GPS eXchange GPX format

MSBikeGDB.zip - 12 individual Garmin Database Ver. 3 GDB format Files (Garmin only)

The 12 files in each zip file are the same ones listed in the next table.  Download your choice, unzip, and then move to your GPS according to the instructions for your GPS.

Individual GPX Files

If there is no link on the file name, it hasn't been built yet. Look for updates at least daily.
These are the files that I initially intend to build.  My goal is to have the initial set finished by Sunday, Sept. 7.
Clicking on these links may just open them in your browser.  If it does, just save the file with a GPX extension.

About Routes, Tracks and Waypoints....
Many people build track files.  These are simply a series of unnamed points along the route - often far more points than compared to a route. I'm trying to build files that will be most useful to a SAG vehicle, or any other event support person that has to DRIVE the course, so I have chosen to build ROUTE files.

GPS Routes are built using WAYPOINTS.  I am creating WAYPOINTS that correspond as close as possible to the CUE SHEETS with as few additional WAYPOINTS as necessary.  I have had to add a few extra WAYPOINTS to make sure that the GPS calculates the route from point to point and stays on track.   For instance, on the Saturday 30 mile route, after mile 24.8 / cross over US-17,  I had to add a couple waypoints to keep the GPS route on course.

This also puts Waypoints into your GPS in case you need to plot a direct route to a specific location, particularly Rest Stops.

Please let me know what you think of this process and what can be done to improve it.

Why Updates?
This is a tedious process.  I'm discovering improvements as I go and expect feedback suggestions.  I will include improvements in files already created, if possible, but my priority is to get the initial routes created.

FEEDBACK WANTED!

(edit the email address to normal format - I don't need junk mail.)
Make sure that the files you download work in your GPS.   Do it TODAY!
PLEASE email me and give me feedback!
There are lots of different GPS manufacturers and models.  These files may work with many, but maybe not with your GPS.  If  these files work with yours, please send me an email and tell me which files you used and the make, model and software versions of your GPS.

If these files don't work with your GPS, let me know.  If you know why, let me know.  If you need a different format, I'll see if I can generate the new format files. See the discussions below.

Please, remember that this is taking a lot of time, so I'll do the best I can, but no promises.

GPS File Creation Info
I am in the process of building  GPS files for the event, but it is a tedious process.  Ultimately, I hope to have at least 12 files built. There are six different routes, and I am trying to build forward and reverse route files for each route.  I amy also try to build sets of files in different formats.

Check back regularly (at least daily until I announce that I'm done) for additional files or updates to existing files.

File Types...
There are several different file types for GPS files.  I'm not completely up to speed, but I think I have a handle on them. I can generate the following formats:

*.GPX
--- GPS eXchange Format files should be usable by most GPS units, no matter the manufacturer.

*.GDB --- Garmin GPS Database Versions 2 and 3.  GDB files are Garmin-specific database files.  I can produce version 2 or 3 files.

*.MPS --- MPS Files

*.TXT --- Text (tab delimited)

*.DXF --- DXF files

Note:
I don't really know anything about  the MPS or DXF files.  My first goal is to get the route files built and loaded into my database.  Once that is done, I can look at what types of files to create.
