KnightLites' DXPedition to Core Banks, NC -- 1999
This is Paul, AA4XX. He makes sure everything goes right because
the whole KnightLites thing was his idea (I think).
This is Dave, WA4NID and Bob, KE4QOK Dave is the one in the hood
(Which is not to say he IS a hood). He makes sure everybody is
having a good time. Bob is holding a large solar panel to keep it
from falling off the
boat.
Thomas kept us gassed up all weekend... and no, he wasn't a cook
(if you know what I mean).
Here are the two phased verticals used on 80 meters. The tent you
see was destroyed the first night out. Thats what happens when you have
QRP accomodations in QRO winds.
This is the base of one of the 80 meter verticals, showing the
ground radials.
Not all the antennas were ground mounted. This kite was the
support for a 160 meter antenna.
With a serious task in front of them, these operators load up on
carbs. No use asking them to work on an empty stomach, right?
This was the scene moments before midnight (our time). Contact with
DF2OK had been made using about 4 watts, and the final plan was being
made with the German team on how to proceed before switching to the
400mw SMiTe rig.
And this is it. The KnightLites' SMiTe. The purpose of the DXPedition
was to attempt to make contact from WQ4RP on the coast of North Carolina
with DF2OK in Germany, who was also using a SMiTe. Was the comtact
a success? Sorry, you'll have to check the
KnightLites' page for this and other stories. Just don't forget to
come back!
